Utilizing a palette of timeless, rich materials, the interior renovation was extended out into the exterior plaza and courtyard spaces. Saiki Design worked closely with the architect, stone mason and contractor to detail unique pedestrian-scale amenities. The final design included raised patios connecting directly to the interior with movable tables and chairs and the Star of David expressed in concrete pavers. An integrated, custom-designed railing along the garden edge of the terrace was carefully detailed. Functional components such as retaining walls and stone ledges were integrated artfully within a terraced planting design.
The site design skillfully responds to the existing architecture and matches the expressive limestone finish of the building. Tree evaluations by a locally renowned arborist helped the team understand the long-term outlook for a number of mature canopy trees and formed a basis for decision making for both preservation and removals.
