Lark at Kohl is a 179-unit mixed-use development in downtown Madison with a diverse range of both public and private amenities. Saiki Design was responsible for the planning and design of the project’s streetscape and for two highly programmed, integral green roof areas.
The courtyard green roof on the second floor employs raised planters around the perimeter to help delineate a more contemporary edge in response to the architecture while providing a visual buffer between more active common areas and those private units surrounding the space. Additional planters break apart the larger space into smaller outdoor rooms, each with a unique purpose, while still maintaining some flexibility in use. Amenities within the courtyard include lounge areas with both fixed and movable site furniture, a fire pit, an outdoor kitchen area with barbecue grills and an exterior table tennis area.
The terrace green roof on the fifth floor is also contemporary in form and captures views of the State Capitol and Madison skyline. It features intimate gathering areas, movable furniture and flexible deck space for yoga or larger gatherings.
